Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state of mind, an REM state that we’re in many times of the day naturally. For example day dreaming, listening to music, reading, exercising, watching a movie, and dancing. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. Whilst in the REM state you will be aware of everything you’re doing, and the suggestions that I am reading out.

There is now scientific evidence that proves that something happens in the brain when people are hypnotised. Mendelsohn et.al’s study demonstrates that hypnotic suggestions influence the brain activity, not just behaviour and experience. So science has proven that hypnosis really does work. Whilst in the REM state I aim to bypass the conscious part of your brain, and offer positive alternative suggestions to the subconscious part of your brain, which will have a powerful effect in your life helping you to reach your goals and turn your dreams into reality.

The Role of the Subconscious

Your subconscious mind is like a huge memory bank. Its capacity is virtually unlimited. It permanently stores everything that ever happens to you. The function of your subconscious mind is to store and retrieve data. Its job is to ensure that you respond exactly the way you are programmed.

Your subconscious mind makes everything you say and do, fit a pattern consistent with your self-concept, your “master program.” Your subconscious mind is subjective. It does not think or reason independently; it merely acts upon any request or instruction your conscious mind gives it. Any thought that is repeated over and over again will take an imprint within the subconscious, which cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined, what is true and what is false, or what is healthy and what is unhealthy for you.

Limiting Core Beliefs

Human beings are conditioned from babies to behave in certain ways. Our parents, other family members, teachers, neighbours and others constantly gave us suggestions that influenced how we see the world. Some of it protected us from doing harmful things, but a lot of it led to negative and limiting beliefs that prevent us from living fully successful lives as adults.

Many will recognise these thoughts because you have heard them all your life; I'm not smart enough, something is wrong with me, I’m clumsy, I can't do it, I never finish anything, this is too hard, I’m a failure, I’m worthless, I’m unlovable, I’m not good enough, change takes too long, etc. You may have initially formed these negative ideas about yourself from things you heard initially from a parent, teacher or someone who was in authority over you or they were decisions you made in reaction to some event.

Now, as an adult you have incorporated them into your own personality and identity. They have become automatic thoughts that you believe to be true. In effect you don't need those people to tell you what to do anymore, they are living inside your own head “Your critical inner voice”. Limiting core beliefs play a key role in the maintenance of long term problems, and these limiting beliefs extend into just about all areas of life. “What you focus on you attract”. If you want to change your behaviour then you have to change your negative core beliefs and thoughts.

How Hypnotherapy changes limiting Core Beliefs

Hypnotic suggestion plays an important role in helping you to overcome limiting beliefs and to develop positive ones. Not all beliefs will collapse straight away. It can take time to overcome subconscious resistance. Hypnotherapy allows you to subtly recognise how certain beliefs can create problems for you. Hypnosis will help you focus less on whether a belief is “true” and more on what effect it has on your life. Once you start to think in this way you can more easily reject beliefs that are unhelpful.

Through the use of hypnotic suggestion, repetition, creative visualisation, mental rehearsal, affirmations, CBT and NLP. You can begin to re-programme your negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours, remove your limiting core beliefs, and develop new comfort zones that work with you to make positive change happen. Ultimately helping you to reach your desired goals and turn your dreams into reality. The mind cannot hold conflicting beliefs, so once it accepts your positive beliefs. These will become your reality and you will attract positivity, happiness, success and fulfilment into your life.

In what other areas is hypnotherapy effective?

Hypnotherapy can be used in many beneficial ways.  For example it can be used to alter behaviour patterns, as with weight loss and quit smoking.  Hypnosis can teach you to relax and reduce your stress levels.  Hypnotherapy can be used to reduce symptoms associated with insomnia, amnesia, travel sickness and pain relief that has an emotional cause.

Hypnotherapy can also help manage many stress related symptoms, such as gastrointestinal problems i.e. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Acid Reflux, Nausea, Indigestion, Heartburn . It can also help you overcome hurdles, like fear of flying, exam nerves, driving test nerves, addictions, OCD, weight loss, quit smoking, nervousness of the dentist or public speaking.  Hypnotherapy can boost confidence, break habits like nail biting, procrastination, and enhance concentration and learning.  Hypnotherapy can be very helpful with emotional or psychological problems, such as anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, stutters & stammers, and psychosomatic symptoms.

My aim is to teach you self hypnosis, so that you will have a technique to help you deal with life’s stresses long after you have left me.  I also use hypnosis to access and activate a persons powerful inner resources to bring about therapeutic change, to help people achieve the things that they want in their life.

All hypnotherapy scripts are recorded and emailed to you in mp3 format.
